چکیده

Ensuring ship navigational safety is a complex, multi-faceted problem that can only be solved while considering the human factor and, consequently, language component of this problem. Terms in general, and terms particular, comprising concepts acting as tools knowledge, are very important components professional communication verbal aspect. Although extensive, English terminology navigation not described systematically enough its more specific sections, which leads to terminological synonymy variative interpretation some terms. These problems prevent maritime transport from becoming safer. This study semantic correlations space provides deeper insight into nature phenomenon. It also enables instructors develop an effective mechanism for students master, based on awareness correlation between term subjects concept structures. Highlights The subject world management corresponding cognitive unique areas activity at sea complex maintaining determines hierarchical structure system within area categorize systematize knowledge forms integral part methods involve field approach, well classification, most ways describe lexical structures specialized systems systematization such units relevant process training navigators work mixed crews

Issues in testosterone management: terminology, safety, genetics

ed Over the last two decades our insight into testosterone (patho-)physiology has progressed. It is clear that there is an age-related decline of plasma testosterone levels, particularly of non-bound testosterone. In addition, it has become apparent that testosterone (and its metabolic products) have a large number of functions not related to the classical reproductive and sexual actions of tes...

Semantic Characterizations of Navigational XPath

We give semantic characterizations of the expressive power of navigational XPath (a.k.a. Core XPath) in terms of first order logic. XPath can be used to specify sets of nodes and sets of paths in an XML document tree. We consider both uses. For sets of nodes, XPath is equally expressive as first order logic in two variables. For paths, XPath can be defined using four simple connectives, which t...

The Terminology of Safety

The notions of para-disciplinary languages and functional language (cf. Hoffman 1984 and Halliday/Martin 1993) are explored with reference to those situations where communication is required to ensure safety and the prevention of hazards. We seek to demonstrate that, in certain scenarios, terminological practice gains a safety-critical edge. Our approach begins with a description of the place o...

Semantic Terminology Management for Applications: Contextualized SKOS-XL

Terminology management is an important aspect for ensuring data quality in large organizations. To enable expert applications the use of agreed and curated terms enhances data quality while it significantly reduces the long-term cost for data integration. In this abstract, we outline our solution for two problems that occur in the context of terminology management for applications.

In this Information Age, we have a variety of sources to fulfill our information needs. More and more of the data is available online, and search engines such as Google, provide us with powerful tools to find specific pieces of information. However, the data is growing exponentially resulting in an Information Overload [Bergamaschi & Guerra]. This phenomenon is all too common in the healthcare ...
